John Farrell Named New Manager of Boston Red Sox

John Edward Farrell was named new manager of the Boston Red Sox today.  He is the 46th person to hold the job. Read about Farrell's first press conference as new manager.

Farrell is part of a long lineage of Irish-Americans who managed the Red Sox, dating back to 1901, when Jimmy Collins headed the team, which was then known as the Boston Americans.  Here is a list of Irish-American managers in Red Sox history:
